One of my first mentors was the amazing Editor, Kate Duffy. During one Editor/Agent panel we were in a discussion of what type of stories we would acquire. As always, we would always stress a great story with great characters, and so forth. But, in classic Kate fashion, she went on to say that she would never want to see a story about Alien Vampire Bunnies.
Hearing that, I swore that I would find one for her.
Unfortunately, that didn't happen when the publishing world lost this fine editor.
Still the search goes on....
So, we come again to the annual Alien Vampire Bunny Contest!
Rules are simple:
1) Submit the first three pages of an Alien Vampire Bunny Story. These do not have to be the first three pages of the story. 1 entry per author.
2) The story can be in any of the following sub-genres:
a) Historical (any time period)
b) Steampunk
c) New Adult
d) Inspirational
3) Stories must be formatted as follows:
a) Times New Roman
b) 12 point font
c) Double-Spaced
d) Rich Text Format attachment
4) Stories must showcase both the concept of Alien Vampire Bunnies as well as well as the sub-genre it is being written in. Please note you cannot simply call a group of people Alien Vampire Bunnies such as a club or gang.
5) Submissions will include the following in a single document:
a) Title
b) Genre
c) 1-3 sentence blurb about the potential book
d) Contact information
6) Submissions can come in beginning October 1. Submissions received before that date will not be judged.
7) Submissions close on October 31. Entries received after that date will not be judged.
DISQUALIFICATIONS:
Submissions will be disqualified if not original. In other words, no submitting stories from prior years.
THE WINNER:
Scott will judge the stories looking at character development, dialogue, plot development, voice and certainly the use of the Alien Vampire Bunnies. Although we are having fun with these stories, the attempt should still be there to create a great piece of fiction.
There will be 1 winner in each of the genres. For this to happen, genres must have at least 5 entries. Should a genre not have 5 entries, it will be collapsed into another genre that is also short in numbers. Therefore there will be anywhere between 1-4 winners.
The winner will receive a critique of the first three chapters and a synopsis of a story of the winner's choosing.
